Halloween Sugar Cookies (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 3 cups all-purpose flour.
02 - 1 tsp baking powder.
03 - ½ tsp salt.
04 - 1 cup butter at room temperature.
05 - 1½ cups granulated sugar.
06 - 2 large eggs.
07 - 2 tsp vanilla extract.
08 - 1 tsp orange gel food coloring (electric orange).
09 - 1 tsp black gel food coloring (super black).
10 - Halloween sprinkles (optional).

Instructions:

01 - In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.
02 - In a separate large mixer bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract, then beat well.
03 - Gradually add the flour mixture into the butter mixture, mixing until smooth and fully incorporated.
04 - Divide the dough into two equal parts. Color one portion orange and the other black, mixing until the desired color is achieved. Rinse the bowl and beaters between colors to avoid mixing them.
05 - Shape the colored dough into flat rectangles, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
06 - Roll each dough out to about ⅛-¼ inch thick, then stack one on top of the other (orange on the bottom, black on top). Trim the edges for a straight finish.
07 - Optionally, brush the outside of the dough with water and press Halloween sprinkles into the sides of the dough.
08 - Roll the dough into a log, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
09 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Slice the dough log into ¼-½ inch thick rounds and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
10 - Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are no longer shiny.
