Cinnamon Swirl Apple Bread (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Filling/Topping

01 - 1/2 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
02 - 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
03 - A pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)

→ Cake

04 - 1/2 cup granulated sugar
05 - 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
06 - 1/2 cup sour cream, at room temperature
07 - 2 large eggs, at room temperature
08 - 2 tablespoons milk, at room temperature
09 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 - 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
11 - 1 teaspoon baking powder
12 - 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
13 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
14 - 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and chopped into 1/2-inch cubes

→ Glaze

15 - 1/3 cup icing sugar, sifted
16 - 1–2 teaspoons hot water

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350˚F (175˚C). Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and set aside.
02 - In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
03 - In a large bowl, combine granulated sugar, melted butter, sour cream, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix by hand or with an electric mixer until smooth and combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
04 - Peel, core, and chop the Granny Smith apple into 1/2-inch cubes. Reserve a handful of chopped apples for topping.
05 - Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth into an even layer. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar filling over the batter and gently swirl with a butter knife. Repeat with the remaining batter, reserved apple pieces, and the rest of the filling, swirling the top layer with the knife.
06 - Bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool on a wire rack for 10-20 minutes.
07 - In a small bowl, whisk sifted icing sugar with hot water until the desired consistency is achieved. Spoon or drizzle the glaze over the cooled loaf.
08 - Allow the glaze to set for 5-10 minutes before slicing the loaf and serving.
