Whisk powdered sugar, 5 tablespoons milk, corn syrup and vanilla until smooth

Add milk gradually until ribbon of icing holds 3-4 seconds. Remove 1/3 for outline icing

To remaining icing, add more milk until it melts quickly back into bowl

Add food coloring if desired to both icings

Pipe outline first, then flood inside. Use toothpick to fill gaps

Let cookies dry 20-24 hours before stacking
