Preheat oven to 200 degrees C (400 degrees F). Grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish.

Place potatoes in an even layer in the greased dish. Sprinkle onion and bacon over the potatoes, then dot the surface with butter. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and stir the potatoes.

Turn the oven to the broiler setting and allow the potatoes to brown for approximately 5 minutes, stirring every minute for even browning.
